Massage involves acting on and manipulating the body with pressure – structured, unstructured, stationary, or moving – tension and motion. Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints or other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, or organs of the gastrointestinal system. Massage will be applied with the hands, fingers, elbows and forearm. The most cited reasons for introducing massage as therapy is for its perceived clinical effectiveness.
As innocuous as massage may seem, there are still times when you should refrain from receiving one because it may adversely affect a health condition that you may already have.
